My dream- A dedicated darkroom (専用暗室がほしい）

My dream is to have a dedicated darkroom for wet plate process. Currently I use both kitchen and bathroom for the wet plate process and I cannot neither cook or take a bath once I started. (and it normally takes all day).
If I had a dedicated darkroom, I could shoot the plate whenever I want.
湿板専用暗室を持つのが夢です。　　今はキッチンとお風呂を両方使っていて、一度はじめたらお料理もできなければお風呂も入れないのです。　たいてい一日仕事なので、とっても不便。 もし暗室があったら撮りたいときに湿板写真が撮れるのに。

The photo doesn’t relate to the article… A bottle taken by ８x１０. (I trimmed a part of the plate). It’s like 3D as if it really exits there.
記事に関係ないけど湿板で撮ったボトル。　まるでそこに存在しているかのように立体的。

This photo of my camera was taken at craftsman’s studio in US in back to April…
今使っている８ｘ１０のカメラは今年の4月はまだUSの職人さんのところにいました。　

I’m thinking to order 11×14 camera, but haven’t decided yet. 　I would like to shoot larger format photos someday.
11×14カメラをオーダーしようかどうか悩み中です。 いつか湿板でもっと大きな写真を撮りたいです。　

Sunning （サンニング）

The last time I got strong fog on the plate so I boiled the silver nitrate and give the sunning today.
前回プレートに強烈なフォグが出たので今日は硝酸銀をボイルしてサンニングしました。

I never seen such a muddy color before…
こんな濁った色は初めて。

It’s almost black.. I had thought the silver nitrate was completely damaged.
真っ黒。　もうこの硝酸銀ダメかなぁーと思ったけど。

But it’s getting cleared.
だんだんきれいになってきました。

After the first filtering.
一回目の濾過後。

It’s completely cleared after the 2nd filtering.
２度濾過したら見違えるほどきれいになりました。

Carbon printing simulation (カーボンプリトシュミレーション）

I’m almost getting ready for making carbon printing tissues. I set up the tools I prepared for the process including the frame I made the other day to see how they look like.
カーボンプリントのティッシュ作りの道具がほぼそろったので、セットしてみました。先日制作した枠も使います。

• wooden board (ベニヤ板)
• iron plate (鉄板)
• yupo (ユポ紙)
• frame (枠)
• clamp clips (クランプクリップ)
• spirit level (水平器)

A spirit level is important to pour the glop into the frame evenly.　(to keep the uniform thickness of the tissue.)
水平器は枠の中に液体を水平に入れるのに重要です。　（ティッシュの厚みを均一にするため。）

カーボンプリントに興味がない人が見たら、なんのこっちゃ、ですけれど、念のため記録しておきます。　あまり女子がやることじゃないよなー。。。と思いつつ・・。

Collodion artists in Japan

I was talking with one of my wet plate friends about the population of collodion artists in Japan.
The “collodion artists” I mean here is whoever shoots wet plates quite often, not necessarily earn the money by making the plates. The members we both know are about 6-7 people and his guess of the total population is less than 30 people in Japan.
I personally think more people are shooting the wet plates.
Well we never know and who cares.

The photo is my first plate from the workshop (not self). I was told that I would struggle as my first trial went too good. And yes, I struggle a lot now…

湿板の友達と実際に湿板をやっている人は日本にどのくらいいるんだろうという話をしてました。 共通の知人は6、7人で友達の予想によると日本に30人もいないんじゃないかとのこと。
私はもっといるような気がするけど、知る余地もないです。

初めてのワークショップで作ったプレート。 最初にこんなにうまくいったら後が苦労するね、と言われましたが、ま、苦労してます(笑。
